However, we were confronted with anti-Semitism on a daily basis. Not only were there more and more stores with the notice “Jews not wanted,” even the swimming pool on Görnestraße, two corners from our apartment, where I was passionate about swimming, informed us one day with a sign that Jews were no longer allowed. On the other hand, the owners of the small grocery and vegetable stores on our street, where we regularly shopped, remained friendly. Our caretakers in Schrammsweg, Mr. Motzek and his wife, behaved almost demonstratively friendly and often took my sister and me to their allotment garden on weekends.
