In October 1938, Georg’s family emigrated to America via London, first to New York, then in January 1939 to Richmond, Virginia. Georg changed his name from Iggersheimer to Iggers. At school, apart from his initially poor knowledge of English, Georg was far superior to his classmates due to his German school education.
