While still in Little Rock, Georg had become a member of the NAACP, the oldest black civil rights movement, after his efforts to allow black students to use the library became known. He was the only white member there. Later, in New Orleans, Chicago, and from the mid-1960s in Buffalo, he actively supported the NAACP and held various local positions.
