Wilma Iggers: First visit to Czechoslovakia in 1966

2005 in Horsovsky Tyn (Bischofteinitz)

“I wanted to see my homeland again and also the people who stayed here, with whom I was friends. I corresponded with a lot of people, especially with my classmates from Domažlice. Mostly my parents corresponded with people from Bischofteinitz Canada were. Georg and you and the children came here in 1966. I didn’t dare to go before. Not just because I asked myself emotionally how I could cope with seeing it again. But also because one was concerned - the communists were there. My father was really that well known. It not only occurred to me, but also to others, that someone might make up the fact that we hadn’t all paid taxes, or I know what and that they wouldn’t let me out again. But by 1966 many had already returned to visit. And then I dared. And the whole time I felt like I had a fever. I saw a lot of changes - but the changes are progressing a lot and I see a lot more now than I saw then. I mean about houses, about people, etc. "
