Böhme was awarded honorary doctorates from the Technical Universities of Ankara, Bucharest, Lyon, Sofia, Veszprem and Warsaw. He was honored with the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (2008).
